Go Behind the Scene’s With Glen Campbell at The Washington Pavilion

Glen Campbell is in the final stage of Alzheimers disease. It’s a disease that has touched millions. A disease that is not only devastating for the person who has it, but family and friends.

On June 9th Glen and his family will release his final album, aptly titled Adios.

I was fortunate enough to see this superstar in 2001 when he was on stage at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls along with the South Dakota Orchestra. And I can truly say, without exaggeration, that it was one of the finest concert’s I’ve ever been to. To call Glen Campbell a world class guitarist and singer is to call the Pacific Ocean that little puddle of water.

He was more than that. While I thought his voice and guitar were absolutely pitch perfect, he apparently didn’t.  As we were getting up and ready to leave, a voice came over the PA.

‘Ladies and gentlemen, for those of you who would like to stay, Glen is coming back out to perform a couple songs that he wasn’t satisfied with. Thank you.’

That’s right. Glen was recording the performance for airing on Public Television, and he wanted it, not only great, but greater.

In this video, you can go behind the scene’s with Glen that night. Sound checks. Stories. Music. Comfort. And love. All before the insidious disease Alzheimers came calling.

Oh, and it reminded me of how jealous I was that my colleague at the time, Rick Knobe, got to sit down and chat with Glen.

God Bless You Glen, and thanks for the decades of love you gave us through your music.
