Severe Weather Awareness Week in South Dakota
It’s only fitting that there’s a chance for severe weather during Severe Weather Awareness Week right?
April 25-29, 2016 is Severe Weather Awareness Week in South Dakota and according to the National Weather Service there’s rain in the forecast off and on pretty much all week, with a slight chance for some thunderstorms in the Sioux Falls area on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Severe Weather Awareness Week is typically a week set aside each year for South Dakotans to prepare for severe weather events that may occur during the spring and summer months.
According to South Dakota Public Safety Secretary Trevor Jones, “The key with severe weather is knowing what to do when it happens.”
Jones encourages South Dakota families to spend a little time during the week talking about what to do in the event of severe weather. This is a perfect time to put together a game plan so that you and your family are prepared should severe weather strike the Sioux Empire this severe weather season.
Don’t be alarmed if you hear severe weather sirens on Wednesday. A statewide tornado warning drill is schedule for Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Sirens will be sounded in most South Dakota communities that day.
Several counties will also host severe weather preparedness meetings for their weather spotters and the public throughout the week in connection with Severe Weather Awareness Week in the state as well.
