Almost seven months after being inducted into the Sioux Falls Skyforce Hall of Fame, Kasib Powell rejoins the team as an assistant coach.

Skyforce Head Coach Nevada Smith has a bench with an impressive resume when it comes to the professional game. Anthony Carter with over a decade spent in the NBA and now Powell a former NBADL MVP can both speak from experience on how to succeed in the professional ranks.

The numbers speak for themselves as Powell with the Skyforce averaged 22.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists on his way to winning the NBA Development League’s MVP award during the 2007-08 season. That success translated to a 10-day contract by the Miami Heat and subsequent signing for the remainder of the season. Powell played in a total of 11 games for the Heat (four starts) and averaged 7.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 28 minutes per game.

Powell returned for a portion of the 2008-09 season as well. In total he appeared in 60 games (54 starts) for the Skyforce and averaged 21.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

Most recently, Powell was Head Coach of the Dakota Magic of the National Basketball League of America which is in their first season of existence. Their season started in September and concludes in November with players mainly from the NCAA and NAIA ranks.

Powell’s hiring means another member of the Skyforce family will get their shot. The Mitchell Daily Republic reports that Nathan Wilson who has spent multiple years in Basketball Operations with the ‘Force and was Assistant Coach under Powell with the Magic, moves up the ladder to Head Coach.
