What Ever Happened to Shaun Cassidy?

Recently my husband randomly texted me a picture of Shaun Cassidy, knowing he was a teen heartthrob I so admired many years ago.

Back then, I’d save up my babysitting money to get issues of Tiger Beat and Teen Beat magazines, carefully bending back the staples that held the pages together and remove the glossy pictures of the Hardy Boys TV show star Shaun Cassidy, adding them to my collection of other photos of him that spanned our basement wall. (Sounds creepy like a stalker doesn’t it?!)

All of this had me wondering, where did the guy go?  He must be up to something interesting.  Sure enough he’s had a very good “second” career in show business, all on the other side of the camera.

If you enjoy watching dark and twisted shows on TV, likely you’ve seen some of his work.  American Gothic, Cold Case, The Mountain and Invasion were all his creations.

A new show with his brother David Cassidy is under development now for Fox.  There’s no date for the release of Inseparable.

Not a surprise that like many of us, he’s had more than one marriage, and is a dad to five children.  My laugh out loud moment in checking up on where my old celebrity crush is now came from this quote:

I’m not cynical about marriage or romance. I enjoyed being married. And although being single was fun for a while, there was always the risk of dating someone who’d owned a lunch box with my picture on it.

Well I didn’t have a lunch box, but I did have a Hardy Boys poster with Cassidy and his co-star Parker Stevenson on my basement wall.  My brother was so frustrated with my love for all things Shaun that he took a pool cue and  rubbed out their eyes with blue pool chalk.  Mom made him pay me money for the damage.

The whole celebrity crush thing was in sixth grade and honestly since then any movie stars or celebrities really don’t mean much to me.  It was a phase that brings me a smile.

If I’d ever meet the man, I’d have to thank him for my career choice however, as liking him brought me to where I am today.  At the age of 12 I declared to my mom that I wanted to move to Hollywood and become an actress. (insert fantasy of being a guest star in a Hardy Boys episode.)  My mom suggested something a bit more practical, like radio.  I called up my favorite local station, had a tour, and that’s when the radio bug bit me. Thanks Shaun!
